DV-2021: Number of Selectees by Country Released!

As was expected, the September Visa Bulletin has been released. And it contains a breakdown of the number of selectees for the DV-2021 Results which were released on June 6, 2020.

As is the case every year, the numbers have been provided by country; with Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Iran and Russia having the highest numbers of selectees – each topping 6,000.

The total number of selectees for DV-2021 is 132,404, making this year an over-selected year. With that number, there will certainly be no second draw as some had been hoping: the status of those not selected in June will remain as such.

In addition, this number also indicates that as many as 77,654 (i.e. more than half of the total selectees) will eventually not receive visas at the close of the upcoming fiscal year. That is because there will be only 54,750 visas available for that much larger number of selectees.

The above number of selectees were chosen from a total of 6,741,128 qualified entries (11,830,707 with derivatives), which is much lower than in previous years. Last year’s, for example, was 14,722,798 qualified entries (23,182,554 with derivatives).

This massive reduction in qualified entries submitted during the DV-2021 Entry period (Wednesday, October 2 to Tuesday, November 5, 2019) was undoubtedly due to the introduction of the passport regulation .

The September Visa Bulletin also contains – as usual – the regional cut-offs for the first month of the new fiscal year – October 2020. However, with the extended ban on immigration still in place, those numbers are not of much importance. Unless the ban is overturned in the coming months, early DV-2021 interviews are not expected to be conducted.

Finally, the September Visa Bulletin admonishes DV-2022 hopefuls to expect details regarding that program by means of the official State Department Visa web page in the coming months (It could actually be as early as next month).

The breakdown of selectee numbers by region and by country, as displayed in the September Visa Bulletin, appear below, in alphabetical order:

    1. The court cases in the DV-2021 program have not yet been finalized. As such, there’s no new information regarding visa issuance to applicants concerned. IMPORTANT: Only plaintiffs in the various court cases will be concerned by any possible DV 2021 visa issuances.

  1. Hi, I am DV2022 selectee.

    Thank you

  2. Please I am a dv winner and am currently living in another country which is not my birth country.. can I apply and get an interview in the country am currently living or am supposed to come back to my home country for interview..

  3. Hello there.
I filled my DS260 by April 2021, My case number is AF41xxx. I did submit my supporting documents as requested by KCC on September 18, 2021, I waited the time they said wait 4 to 6 weeks before you ask us about the status of your case. Today 11/04/2021, I received and email from KCC because I contacted them on November 2, 2021, this is what they said:Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Once the Kentucky Consular Center has finished processing your DS-260, you will receive an email from the Kentucky Consular Center giving you instructions to complete in order for your case to continue processing.

The Kentucky Consular Center has received your documents. Please allow time for processing of your documents. Documents are processed in numerical order, based on lottery rank number. Once KCC has processed your documents, we will let you know if anything is missing or if we have received everything needed.
I am a little bit confused, what are the chances that I will get an interview this 2021 or because my number is AF41xxx. My country of eligibility is Algeria but I live in France, so what is the category I will be Europe or Africa?

    1. Reading from the date you filled out your DS 260, your case was a part of the DV-2021 program.

If you are a plaintiff in any of the court cases concerning DV-2021, then you can take the email seriously (only cases of plaintiffs from DV-2021 are still being considered for processing). If you aren’t a plaintiff, then the email may have been an automatic reply to the email you sent. Simply disregard it. Read this for more explanation: https://mydvprogram.com/status-of-dv-2021-cases

As regards the region, your country of eligibility is a part of the Africa region as your case number shows: AF41XXX.

  4. Hi! I’m a DV 2022 selectee with a case # of 60xxx and have filled my DS 260 form since 18 Aug 2021, I haven’t receive any update or email from kcc requesting supporting documents.. when will kcc request for documents from those with this case number mentioned above ?

    1. 60XXX is considered a high case number in the AF Region which I suppose you’re in. It’s therefore going to take quite some time before KCC start to process cases with such high case numbers.

  5. Dear sir/Madam,

I am winner of DV 2022 My case number is AF10xxx, can I have a chance to be interviewed in the fiscal year.

    1. Hi Mlike:

Your question suggests that you are not aware of the ‘timing’ of the DV program. With an AF 10,000 case number, your interview is expected to be held in early 2022. It means by this time, your documents must have already been sent in and accepeted. Has that happenend yet?

  7. Dear Trodvies,
I am one of the selected for DV2021 program. My case number ends with 4700, however I have not been called for the interview yet. Could you please help me what should I do for the next step?

    Many Thanks

    1. Hi Farid:

I’m afraid there’s nothing else you can do at this point. DV-2021 was a disaster, and there’re so many selecteees who find themselves in the same shoes as you.

There were a number of lawsuits filed in favor of DV-2021 selectees. The outcome was that a number of visas will be set aside for 2021 selectees. However, said visas will benefit only named plaitiffs in the lawsuits.

With that, all other DV-2021 selectees (which I guess include you) have lost what was supposed to be your chance to emigrate to the U.S.A. And you can’t change that, unfortunately.
